KILN FIRED PORCELAIN PORTRAITS
Porcelain ceramic photo tiles are most commonly found on cemetery gravestones
as cameo portraits of deceased.
Ceramic portraits are fired at very high temperatures (up to 1,500 degrees
Fahrenheit), to ensure that they will endure the extremes of weather and
environment. The ceramic photo colors will not fade.
Reproduction of colors on the finished photo tile
Ceramic toners do not have the variety of combinations to produce the millions of
colors that digital photography has.
When the toners are fired in the kiln, they change color slightly. This means that
the colors on the decal to be fired may not be exactly the same color as the finished
picture. Since the color difference has to be judged by eye, we cannot guarantee
that the final plaque is identical in every way to the original photo.
You may find elsewhere on the Web or other locations that photos tiles may also be
labeled as "ceramic" or "porcelain" photos. These might be produced through a
process called "sublimation" which is not fired in a kiln. These kinds of tiles cannot
be guaranteed for use outdoors for more than 2 or 3 years, if that. Always ask the
company which process they use.
Porcelain photo tiles may be reproduced in color, sepia tone (old age look) or black
and white. Porcelain/Ceramic photo tiles are reproduced from your submitted
photos. Once this process is completed the tiles are then fired in a kiln at high
temperatures for permanence and protection against fading from ultra-violet light
and outdoor conditions.
They are guaranteed for outdoor use. Our portraits carry a lifetime warranty. We
offer full satisfaction and will replace any defective portrait at no charge. Copies
of portraits are electronically filed for eventual future reproduction purposes.
